I came across this App that shows your the Satellites going overhead in a really simple format. You could just go to heavens-above.com but this App actually has alarms you can set to remind yourself when a satellite is going overhead. It's cheap at $3 and once I have a smartphone i'm certain considering it...

But there are so many of those little lights going across the sky wouldn't the alarm going off constantly be annoying?

It looks like you can set it for individual passes. Some people try to observe each of the IR satellites flaring, sorta like trying to observe all of a certain dim catalog. They're not that exciting to look at, but it's fun to nab them all, same principle can be applied to satellites. I find the ISS passes and other things like the Nano-D Sail pretty fun to watch, just to realize what that bright flare is and all.
